Kenya: Near Mount Kenya (6th of 8 posts)
The south side of Mount Kenya is a gently sloping mega-shield volcano.
A green cultural landscape, some of it still clothed in tiny areas of native forest.
We came to this area from the West, from Thomson Falls (driving on from Nakuru). After staying at Castle Forest, within the National Park of Mount Kenya we went south past Nyeri....
Here we share some stops west of Mount Kenya and south near the Tana river.
Some hightlights:
- Thousands of Little Swifts at Tana
- Sunbirds
-Weavers and wonderful colonies,
-Open-bills in paddyfields
-Cape Eagle Owl at one of its rocky haunts
-Village Weaver Colony!
We wish to thank Simba Pride Adventures for car rental service and all assistance in the field. Highly recommended! www.simbaprideadventures.com |
