Kenya: Lake Nakuru National Park (4th of 8 Posts)
Famed from the "Out of Africa" scenes...Nakuru!
Really worth being a global birding hotspot, there is no hype in praising Nakuru.
We spent a seven hour birding trip starting late, at about 10:30, entering from Nderit Gate, not the main gate. So we saw only the southern part of the park.
My personal highlights:
-View from the south end of the lake - full of pelicans, flamingos and big game...
-Waders and shorebirds at the lakefront
-Quick break at the Nakuru lodge (lots of woodland birds spotted there)
-Makalia Falls, walking around the falls and seeing lots of specialties here.
-Baboons!
-Some rare birds (Secretary Bird, several raptors, etc)
But, we did not find the Ground Hornbills....
